Look Outside Friendliest Monster: Pierre | Look Outside

Pierre the clown Look Outside

Pierre the Clown is Look Outside’s Creepy Clown, and a cute little fella that tried to help Sam out with his paralyzing fear of Clowns

Look Outside subverts the creepy clown trope with Pierre, a tiny clown who is the only thing capable of paralyzing the protagonist, Sam, with fear. Despite Sam facing literal monsters and new gods, his severe chlorophobia makes him unable to speak or fight Pierre during their first encounter. The game hints at a confrontation, but contrary to expectations, Pierre is actually friendly and seeks to help Sam overcome his fear. Pierre who has been exposed to the Visitor’s cursed light, uses his clown persona to disguise his twisted form. He proposes working with Sam to conquer his chlorophobia through gradual exposure.

Over the next several days, Pierre works patiently with Sam moving from simply being in his presence to giving him a janky clown drawing, and eventually to asking for a hug. On the final day of treatment Pierre reveals his true, multi-faced, many-legged form montrous form. This grotesque sight triggers a murderous, fear-driven rage in Sam, who attacks the tiny clown. Despite the unprovoked assault, Pierre remains kind, supportive, and non-violent, even healing Sam during the fight if his health drops too low, revealing his true nature as a pure creature of light sent to spread love; as clowns tend to be.

The fight ends when enough damage is dealt to either Pierre or his tail, upon which Pierre congratulates Sam celebrating his overcoming of fear. Though Sam hasn’t entirely conquered his phobia, the encounter proves Pierre’s genuine, helpful intentions, which the notorious serial killer Sam repaid with a furious attack. Pierre’s final gesture is to give Sam a clown wig and nose, ensuring a piece of the friendly little fella remains with Sam.
