The Doomsday clock is a representation of how dangerous or unstable global affairs are. It is run by the Bulletin of Atomic Scientist after their first detonation of an atomic weapon in 1945, and is meant to educate the world about the dangers that we face as a society.

Many scientist that were involved with the Manhattan Project (such as Oppenheimer and Einstein) came out after the end of World War 2 to warn the world of the destructive power of these new nuclear weapons, and their threat to civilization.

In current times, the clock is set to 90 seconds to midnight, moved forward by the illegal and cruel Russian invasion and occupation of Ukraine, along with the increasing impact of climate change, and disrupting the era of Pax Americana in the Western led world.

We are currently at about 1.2C above preindustrial levels. The tipping point is thought to be between 1.5C and 2C degree increase. Crossing the tipping point will let loose runaway effects as even more CO2 and greenhouse gasses are released into the atmosphere due to natural processing as a result of heating.

The 2nd half of the 21st century is likely to be defined by climate induced civil and international strife, as the impacts of climate change get stronger and stonger. Thank you for watching.
